The reason that I think Ortega should stay open is because I think it is a good school for kids to go to. Also my little brother is in second grade and is going to get moved to another school that we don't even know about. I have only been at Ortega for two years and I think it is the best elementary school that I have ever been to. So I do not want Ortega to close because I want other kids to go to the Ortega school and see how good the school is for Pre-k through 5th grade.
Sincerely,
David and Estevan
The reason that I do not want Ortega closed is because I have a brother that is in the second grade and he wants to stay here until fifth grade. We both have a house close the school but if their going to close the school than why did we buy the house. Some other kids can come to Ortega and you learn a lot and have a lot of fun. When I first go to Ortega I was shy but when you talk to a classmate you will find a friend and a lot more. An alternative to closing Ortega is to make a sixth grade so there are more students here.
Sincerely,
David
The reason Ortega Elementary should stay open is because there are so many great things about it. For example, our Physical Education program: almost everybody in the school likes it; or our Art Program: because sometimes if our art is good we go into competitions (once we sent our art to someone in authority and got awards.) Another good example to not close our school is our Choir Program: because we always go to performances around the city (even singing during the Austin Marathon in February.) We represent our school, our self, and our district with these programs. That is why our school should stay open. Also, our library is really cool too because we have so many good books and a lot of kids at the school love to read and we have a wonderful librarian Ms. Miller. Instead of closing Ortega Elementary, some solutions for Ortega’s school closer are: creating a sixth grade so we can have more students registered at the school, the district could run a campaign to increase the number of students at the school or we can raise more money for the school and ask for donations.
Please do not close our school.
Sincerely,
Estevan

Ortega is an Exemplary School
I don't want Ortega to get close because its a great school and they teach us very well. Our teachers are thoughtful and kind the also care about us. I love about Ortega that we know ever body here.
We have been Exemplary from 2008-2010. These are the reasons that I do not want Ortega to shut down.

Our Teachers Support Us
I want Ortega to stay open because this school has a lot of important things that other schools do not have, like teachers that support you and do great activities. All of our students like to learn every single day. The teachers in Ortega like teaching and they like encouraging the students to do well on the TAKS. The students and parents are trying to do everything they can do to save the school.
I want this school to stay open because since I have been to Ortega Elementary, every time I come to school I see students that are happy to come to school and learn new things. I never thought that people would try to close this school because every student is smart and comes to learn. The teachers from our school teach well, they push us until we have good grades and they take good care of us. Teachers are responsible and know what they are going to teach first. I don’t want people to close Ortega because parents would be worried about their children that they are not going to have a good education. I hope they don’t close the school.
Instead of closing Ortega elementary, alternative solutions are, create a 6th grade, to close another school and send those students to Ortega, or for the school district to run a campaign to increase our student numbers.
Sincerely,
Araceli Rodriguez

PLEASE DON'T CLOSE ORTEGA!!!
We don't want Ortega to close because it is an Exemplary school. If they shut it down Ortega, the kids will have to go to a school that might not be Exemplary. We are getting a lot more things like computers that will help us learn new things. We might not have the same opportunity to learn if we are sent to another school.
Most of the kids at Ortega walk to school because their parents are at work and it is reasonably close enough to walk to. Again if AISD closes our school, kids will have to walk at least an hour to get from their house to school. Kids will also have to walk across busy, dangerous roads to get to school.
Instead of closing Ortega, an alternative solution could be:
Add a sixth grade to Ortega to increase the number of students, so AISD can’t shut us down,
Or, write more letters asking people in authority to help save Ortega.
PLEASE DON'T CLOSE ORTEGA!!!

The reason I do not want Ortega Elementary to close is that where are the kindergartners going to go if there is no other school close by to our neighborhood? In addition, Ortega gave me an education and I want my brother and sister in the younger grades to have the same. An alternative solution to closing the school would be to create a 6th grade or the school district could run a campaign to increase the number of students. Please DO NOT close Ortega.
Sincerely,
Hector

What kind of people would close a good school like Ortega? How would you feel if your child was in Ortega? You wouldn't want to close it any more, would you?
Why Ortega Should Stay Open
I want Ortega Elementary to stay open because we have been Exemplary 2 years in a row. I want to finish my last year at Ortega. I like Ortega because when the students need help the teachers will help us.

Our Teachers Help Us Succeed
Ortega elementary should stay because we have been at Ortega for a long time. Ortega is a Exemplary for doing our best on the TAKS test. Everybody at Ortega is very smart and does not give up on anything. The teachers help you succeed and they are also supportive. The children and adults are nice all the time. Please keep Ortega open.
